Try these non whole food proteins to help meet your protein goals…..
Getting enough protein is absolutely imperative for faster recovery from workouts and helping us build muscle. We had our BBH Fit online studio members who are following the BUILD strength program complete a worksheet to calculate how many grams of protein they should be shooting for daily based on their unique activity level and bio factors.
A few clients shared they were having a hard time meeting those protein goals! Most of you were getting much less protein than you thought! So I wanted to share two of my favorite non whole food proteins to make getting those grams a whole lot easier.
BONE BROTH: Excuse the misleading photo, but I accidentally grabbed chicken broth instead of bone broth! Bone broth actually has more protein, collagen, electrolytes, vitamins and minerals than chicken broth. I’ll sip on warm bone broth instead of a second cup of coffee most days and that’s been a great way for me to sneak in extra protein and other minerals to help me recover like a champ. My favorite bone broth brands are Trader Joe’s Organic that you can find in the refrigerated section and Kettle + Fire especially because of the many additional varieties they have like Turmeric Ginger! You can get it from most grocery stores. I’ve seen it locally at Publix and Food City.
FAIRLIFE: Ya’ll I’m telling you. I don’t prefer protein shakes for the chemical after-taste they always leave behind. So when two of my clients told me how much they were loving the Fairlife, I hesitantly tried it and fully expected it to be no different from every other shake. Fairlife has changed me! This stuff is goooood and packs in 30g of protein along with other amazing nutrients needed like calcium, iron and potassium. Fairlife is lactose free but know that the protein does come 100% from milk so it is casein (a more slow digesting protein) and whey (a faster digesting protein). I’m honestly not sure if this shake is okay for my non-dairy crew- i’ll need to do some more digging, but I imagine you’ll still want to stick to a plant based alternative like pea if you can’t have dairy in your diet. I’ve been buying Fairlife in bulk from Costco and I’ll usually drink half between breakfast and lunch and then the rest after a workout.
Getting your protein from a liquid source can make getting more protein easier and a more convenient option that can also help you get more important vitamins and minerals to aid in recovery and curb appetite to help with any weight loss goals.
I hope this helps you reach your protein goals. I want ALL of your strength training to pay off!! You put in the hard work with the weights, so making sure your nutrition supports that work!
